"Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today" - Malcolm X

Hi! I'm the founder and director of Growth Mindset Education and this is my story...

I believe the best plans are those that are dynamic, guided by our intuition and constantly stimulate self-development and personal growth.

My thirst for learning started at school, thanks to the passion and enthusiasm of my Science and Maths teachers. Inspired to study further, I gained a Master's degree. However, not at rest with the status quo, I continued to broaden my experience and expertise in engineering until I achieved Chartered Engineer status and eventually reach the peak of my career as a Principal Consultant Engineer and successful international Project Manager.

SELF-DISCOVERY AND SACRIFICE

Despite all the success; I still felt unfulfilled. I wanted to give something back to society so I decided to give up my weekends to offer mentoring to the youth at the local community centre.

After 7 years of positive feedback from students and parents alike and the apparent impact I had on enriching the lives of others, I discovered my calling. At the age of 43, I decided to leave the lucrative profession of engineering and embark on a teaching career. Once I acquired a Distinction in TESOL, I moved abroad to teach Academic English at a reputable university before I returned to the UK to become a fully qualified and 'Outstanding' teacher in Science.

THE LEARNING CURVE

Throughout my teaching career, I gained enriching experience working with students with SEND, children in care and those from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

After gaining valuable exposure to primary, high school, further and higher education I was able to appreciate the complete learning journey of a child. That was the point I decided to offer private tuition in the core subjects and provide seamless support based on the principles of growth mindset across all age groups.

THE LIGHT-BULB MOMENT

Having worked extensively in industry and then acquired deep knowledge and experience of holistic child development, it became apparent that there was a need for curriculum content to be personalised and conveyed in parallel with transferrable skills that would bridge the gap by preparing students for the challenges of higher education and the working world.

Parents and students were complaining that mainstream schooling alone was inadequate to cater for common problems experienced by the learners such as lack of self-confidence and self-esteem; sense of falling behind and frustration and not being able to grasp the key concepts well enough to succeed. The COVID pandemic exacerbated the issues and with the need for virtual learning - this vacuum became the driving force for the formation of Growth Mindset Education.
